A trans-media artist who works multidisciplinary sound out moving image, sound, writing, spoken word and cross-media performances. They superimpose urban daily life and transgressive fictional narrative in between a new forensic vision of kinetic installations, instruments and performances. Zhuyang is opening up the conversations of existence, body, consumption, and communal facilities by intervening in public sites as titillation at the verge of tampering and eerie consistency.

As a Guzheng player and composer, nourished at young age by Zhou Xin , virtuoso of Guzheng Northern sect, National Orchestra of China Broadcasting Art Troupe. Zhuyang major in playing 21 strings Guzheng, 16 steel-string Guzheng, Multi-tone Guzheng, following by the constant exploration of plucked string instruments such as Guqin, Duxianqin, Koto etc. The winner of the second prize of solo and the first prize of ensemble performance, at the China-Japan-Korea International Guzheng Conference 2013. 

Zhuyang’s confluent cultural background and experiences in multidisciplinary fields has created a provocative combination of ethnic insights and contemporary dialogue in their works and vision. The extreme playing of the reconstructed instruments immerses with the electronic acoustics moving in parallel across the soundscape. Features elements of Jazz fusion, dub, drum & bass, ambient, oriental, and tribal. recent sets including Hundred years Gallery, Frappant e.V. gallery, Hamburg/ Staffordshire St, London/ /San Mei Gallery, London / SYSTEM, Shanghai /Matchstick Piehouse, London etc.

From 2022-2023, Zhuyang scored, sound designed independent film ‘NOW, THEN- 5.1 channel audio’, “Run! Dorothy Run!”  scored and sound directed multiple projects of fashion collections and runways, following by multiple physical CD releases. Zhuyang’s  UK & China based project include: collective ‘Lao San Yang’ , ‘Epic life doggerel verse’. Zhuyang’s extreme playing of the reconstructed instruments immerses the viewer in a romantic playroom while discovering fictional narratives moving in parallel across the soundscape. "absurd and dramatic" of the works came from the occult context of the instruments while the causes of the sound are challenged by its physicality. ZHUYANGER 撞, is a hybrid project system of Zhuyang Liu. Audiences are sobered up by world-infused sound, and deliriously poetic language while the fusion of chordophone with electronica grooves the brains.

Zhuyang's research-based writing<The Sonic Arsenal of alternative instruments: A "Unconventional Warfare “ in Sound, Noise, and Conflict> has provided an important aspect based on 'Sonic Warfare' Steve Goodman(2010). The writing is open up the conversation of sonic force at the same time, based on the military concept of "strategy" in Sun Tzu's Art of war, the writing studies the phenomenon of Tool Being and the use of Musical Instruments. It's raising the politics of sound which have long captivated artists and musicians in the history of music and sound art, as they continually push the boundaries of what is considered sound or acceptable in the auditory domain.

跨媒体艺术家,从事多学科研究为基础的创作,包括动态影像、声音、文字、口语 (Spoken word) 和混合媒体表演。他们将城市市井生活和越界的虚构叙事叠加在动态装置、乐器和表演的“新法医式的图景 (a new forensic vision)”之间。竹洋通过对公共场所的干预,开启了关于存在、身体、消费和公共设施的对话,让一切存在于篡改和怪异一致性的边缘。被英国媒体评为“声音的杂技师”、 “荒诞的肥皂剧式的当代艺术”、“请不要再让观众晕倒在现场了!”。

竹洋对于声音媒介的探索可以追溯到从幼年开始接触的古筝艺术。师从中国广播民族乐团古筝演奏大师周昕,传承中国北派筝,作为青年古筝演奏家、作曲人,演奏钢丝筝,多声筝,其后对于非遗京族独弦琴艺术、日本筝、韩国玄琴等世界弹拨弦乐器进行持续的探索。 获2013年中日韩国际古筝大赛独奏、合奏金奖等。

竹洋的声音研究项目及写作《The Sonic Arsenal of alternative instruments: An "Unconventional Warfare "in Sound, Noise, and Conflict / 另类乐器的声波军火库:声音、噪音和冲突中的“非常规战争”》 基于史蒂夫·古德曼(2010)的“声波战争”并提供了一个重要而未被提及的方面同时,以孙子兵法中的“策略”军事概念为基础,研究工具论与乐器的运用生态,展开声音政治、即兴、音乐史、传播、生态基因学等命题对话,推动被认为是音乐或听觉领域可接受的界限。学院攻读纯艺术。

 

2020起至今多次受邀为MV、独立电影进行作曲、声音设计,为时装系列和T台项目配乐和声音艺术指导,制作人,美术指导,导演等。竹洋与世界多⺠族乐器的探索以CD记录发行。2023年发行项目包括:3月新加坡Shiyun Teo导演作品《蝴蝶山 NOW THEN》立体环绕声音装置与短片原声带CD。中国艺术家沈靖皓导演酷儿短片《桃乐丝! 快跑!》 (中国美术学院美术馆收录)片尾曲。6月演奏古筝与⻓笛爵士音乐家、作曲家Paul Cheneour(英国)合作即兴专辑《Water Dragon Temple》受到高度评价,将于10月伦敦进行发售演出。中英项目包括:与Bianco Li和吕博功Corey Lyu组成即兴三人组“老三样”,探索声音、戏曲、合成器、融合诗歌、东方⺠间传说在即兴方式下的全新构成。“史诗般的生活打油诗”与英国艺术家Joe Shone Hatchwell。'ZHUYANGER撞' 是竹洋的电子声音系统和舞曲结构。

融合的文化背景在竹洋的作品和视野中创造了一种具有挑衅性的民族洞察力和当代对话的结合。重建乐器的极端演奏沉浸在电子与乐器原声的平行移动的音景中。作品的“荒诞和戏剧化”来自于乐器的神秘语境与其对声音概念的独特理解—声音的成因受到其物质性的挑战。观众被来源于世界的声音和癫狂诗意的语言所清醒,而弦乐器与电子乐器的融合则使他们的大脑跟着声音舞动。
